Prepaid Roaming Add-ons

If you’ve got a prepaid phone and are headed overseas, check out our Prepaid Roaming Add-ons to get some talk minutes, TXT and/or data that you can use in over 50 selected countries.

How do I buy one?

Your last recharge will need to have been on a Pay As You Go Plus, MyMix or Combo prepaid plan. If you’ve got that covered, the easiest way to get one is online through Express Recharge, at myvodafone.com.au or through the My Vodafone app. You can buy Prepaid Roaming Add-ons online with a credit/debit card or PayPal.

How to buy a Prepaid Roaming Add-on via TXT

Before you start

You’ll need to have registered a credit/debit card to your account to buy Prepaid Roaming Add-ons via TXT. If you haven’t done this, check out our support page for instructions.

Eg. to get the weekly $35 Prepaid Roaming Add-on with 250MB, 60mins and 60 TXT, send ROAM7D in a TXT to 1511.

Step 2

You’ll receive a TXT from 1511 showing the price and inclusions of the add-on you selected.

Follow the prompts in the TXT to reply and complete the purchase.

 

Questions and answers

What happens if I visit a country that’s not included in the add-on?

If you have My Credit or are on a recharge with Flexible Credit, you’ll be charged prepaid roaming rates for your usage, otherwise you will not be able to roam.

Note: Your add-on’s expiry period will still run when you visit countries that aren’t included.

What happens if I use up my add-on?

If you have My Credit or are on a recharge with Flexible Credit, you’ll be charged prepaid roaming rates for your usage, otherwise you will not be able to roam.

How do the minutes work?

If your add-on includes minutes, they’ll be used when both making and receiving standard voice calls while in an included country. Charging increment is 60 seconds.

Minutes can be used to make standard voice calls back to Australia, within the country you’re in and to other countries.

Your add-on’s minutes can’t be used for video calls.

How do messages work?

If your add-on includes TXT, they’ll be used when sending standard TXT to both Australian and international mobile numbers. Standard TXT are free to receive while overseas.

You can’t use your Roaming Add-on’s TXT inclusions for PXT/MMS.

How does the expiry period work?

Prepaid Roaming Add-ons have their own expiry period which is separate to the expiry date of your recharge.

Once you’ve purchased an add-on, you can use it immediately however the expiry period won’t begin until midnight AEST. This means you’ll always receive a minimum of 3 or 7 full days to use the add-on regardless of the country/time-zone it was added in.

If you’re in New Zealand or Fiji, your add-on will expire at midnight local time on its date or expiry. In all other selected countries, your add-on will expire at midnight Sydney time on its date of expiry.

Can I rollover unused inclusions?

You can rollover unused inclusions provided you buy an add-on with same expiry again before it expires (eg. you can rollover unused minutes, TXT and data from a 7 day Prepaid Roaming Add-on to another 7 day Prepaid Roaming Add-on, or you can rollover unused data from a 7 day Prepaid Roaming add-on or 7 day Prepaid Data Roaming Add-on to any 7 day Prepaid Roaming Add-on). The unused minutes, TXT and data will take on the expiry period of the new add-on.

Will my recharge or add-on be used first?

Inclusions in your add-on will always be used before your recharge. Once you’ve used up your add-on, prepaid roaming rates will apply.

If I've got two or more Prepaid Roaming Add-ons active, which will be used first?

If you’ve bought two or more add-ons and they have different expiry periods, they’ll be used in this order regardless of their individual expiry dates:

  1. 3 day add-ons
  2. 7 day add-ons

Note: If you buy a Prepaid Roaming Add-on as well as a Prepaid Data Roaming Add-on and they have the same expiry period, data inclusions of both add-ons will be combined. 

Can I use the inclusions of a Prepaid Roaming Add-on in Australia?

No. Prepaid Roaming Add-ons are for use in selected countries only and can’t be used within Australia.

Can I use the inclusions of a Prepaid Roaming Add-on in more than one selected country?

Yes. If you’ll be visiting more than one of our selected countries during your trip, the remaining inclusions of your Prepaid Roaming Add-on will be available for you to use as you move between selected countries.

If I buy a data only Roaming Add-on, what will calls and messages cost?

You’ll be charged prepaid roaming rates according to your recharge plan. 

Can I get a Prepaid Roaming Add-on with a voucher or My Credit?

No. Prepaid Roaming Add-ons are only available online using a credit/debit card or PayPal, or via TXT using a registered credit/debit card.
