Wi-Fi Assist on iPhone and iPad

If you’ve got an iPhone or iPad running iOS 9 or later, it has a handy feature called Wi-Fi Assist which switches the device to mobile data when it detects issues with your Wi-Fi connection.

While this feature helps your device to stay connected and provides a better internet experience, it may lead to you using more mobile data than you’d like. If you want to switch Wi-Fi Assist off or on, you can do this through your settings.

How to manage Wi-Fi Assist

  1. Tap ‘Settings’.
  1. Tap ‘Mobile’ or ‘Cellular’.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  1. Toggle ‘Wi-Fi Assist’ off or on.

More info

Your device will still automatically switch to mobile data with Wi-Fi Assist off, but it’s likely to do this more often with it on. If you need more help managing your data usage, check our support page.
