Using email on your device

This support article will show you how to set up your email account on your device. Most phones and tablets are automatically set up with popular email services such as Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail ready to use. However, some devices may require you to configure the settings manually.

How to set up your email.

The best way to set up your email on your device is using our mobile configurator. This contains the email settings for most devices, which are sent directly to your phone via text message, or provided to you with step-by-step instructions to enter manually.

You can also get the settings through your email provider. Here are the settings for popular email providers.

Unable to send emails troubleshooting steps.

If you’ve set up a POP3 or IMAP email account on your phone and you can receive emails but can’t send them, check the following details with your email service provider:

  1. Check your email provider’s outgoing server address. Make sure your email provider's outgoing mail server isn’t using port 25. Port 25 is only available for use with Vodafone's outgoing mail server. If your email provider uses port 25, we recommend contacting them about using an alternative SMTP server port.
  2. Check your username. This may differ in format to your usual email address.
  3. Check your email provider offers an SSL encrypted server for off-net access. If they do, enter these into your email settings.

If your email provider doesn't offer an SSL encrypted server for off-net access, you can use the Vodafone outgoing mail server.

When setting up the Vodafone outgoing mail service, make sure WiFi on your device is switched off. You’ll need to be connected to the Vodafone network for the settings to work.

Please note, you won't be able to send emails with our outgoing mail server while your phone is connected through WiFi to another internet provider. We recommend using your email provider’s outgoing mail if possible.
