Accessing TXT messages on your Mobile Broadband device

This support article will give you key information about sending and receiving TXT messages on your Mobile Broadband device. 

How to access TXT messages.

Here are the ways you can send and receive TXT messages using your Mobile Broadband device.

Pocket WiFi and modems.

USB modem.

You can send and receive TXT messages directly from your USB modem using the software it came with. Accessing TXT messages through your USB modem differs depending on its software.

 

Software Instructions

Vodafone Mobile Broadband software

To access your TXT messages, select the 'SMS' icon in the bottom left corner of the software window.

Vodafone QuickStart software

To access your TXT messages, go to the online dashboard via 192.168.1.1 or vodafonemobile.vmb using your web browser when your USB modem connected. Once the QuickStart homepage loads, select the ‘SMS’ tab.

 

Pocket WiFi.

You can send and receive TXT messages directly from your Pocket WiFi using the online dashboard:

  1. Open the Pocket WiFi online dashboard by:
  • Entering 192.168.0.1 into the web browser when your Pocket WiFi is connected.
  • Connecting the Pocket WiFi to your computer using the Micro USB cable and then select the short cut icon on your desktop.
  1. Login using the admin password. If you’ve never changed the password, the default will be ‘admin’.
  2. Select the ‘SMS’ tab, or ‘Go to Inbox’.
  3. Select ‘Inbox’ to access your text messages.

Huawei WiFi Cube.

You can access TXT messages on your WiFi Cube through the online dashboard. Enter 192.168.8.1 into your web browser using a computer or device that’s connected to your WiFi Cube.

You can also access TXT messages through the Huawei HiLink app.

Tablets.

Android.

iPad.

iPads are unable to send or receive TXT messages.

Can I make calls using my Mobile Broadband SIM?

If you’re on a Mobile Broadband plan, you can insert your Mobile Broadband SIM into a compatible phone to make calls and send TXT messages. However, our Mobile Broadband plans have data inclusions only, so any calls that you make from your SIM will be charged on top of your minimum monthly spend. You can find call rates for making calls from your Mobile Broadband SIM through My Vodafone.

If you’re on prepaid Mobile Broadband, you’re unable to use your Mobile Broadband SIM to make calls.

What are the charges for sending TXT from your Mobile Broadband device?

If you’re on a Mobile Broadband plan, any TXT messages you send will be charged on top of your minimum monthly spend. You can find rates and charges through My Vodafone.

If you’re on a prepaid Mobile Broadband service, these are the TXT inclusions.

When will I need to access TXT messages on my Mobile Broadband device?

When you register for My Vodafone, or if you forget your password, we’ll send a temporary password to your Mobile Broadband device via TXT.

If you’re on a Mobile Broadband plan, we’ll send you reminders about your invoice due date via TXT.

If you’re on prepaid Mobile Broadband, we’ll periodically send you reminders about your recharge expiry date via TXT.

How many TXT messages can my device hold?

Pocket WiFi and USB modems have a storage capacity of 20 sent and received text messages. Once you reach this limit, you’ll be unable to receive TXT messages until you free up some space. We recommend deleting any TXT messages you no longer need.

How do I know if my Pocket WiFi has received a TXT message?

If your Pocket WiFi has received a TXT message the message indicator on the front of the device will display a green light, or an envelope icon will appear on the screen.
